…until he gets this guy on the left of this picture but to the right stirred up and they started in at each other. Then the third one to the far right gets involved. 2013:08:29 15:39:20 Exposure time: 1/800 F-stop: 13.0 ISO speed: 1600 Focal length: 300mm

I should have gotten him centered, but… 2013:08:29 15:39:44 Exposure time: 1/800 F-stop: 13.0 ISO speed: 1600 Focal length: 300mm

Continuing the Whale Watching And Wildlife Quest early on a seagoing boat out of Juneau. It was a sunny and beautiful day. We saw many lighthouses on the shore and a few glaciers 2013:08:29 15:46:19 Exposure time: 1/1600 F-stop: 14.0 ISO speed: 1600 Focal length: 300mm

This was the second orca we saw and the first shot I got of an orca body. The guides said they had not seen them in over a month, but maybe they tell everyone that. There were 3 or so small boats like this and one larger than ours. 2013:08:29 15:52:56 Exposure time: 1/1000 F-stop: 13.0 ISO speed: 1600 Focal length: 155mm

Then a second one sounded and blew, and you can see his white belly. 2013:08:29 15:53:02 Exposure time: 1/1250 F-stop: 13.0 ISO speed: 1600 Focal length: 165mm I got mor confident and increased the focal length (shrinking the field of view making it harder to point at the target.

Here was a 4th sighting, the 5th animal I got pictures of. I finally got up to 300 mm, my maximum focal length (max magnification) 2013:08:29 15:54:52 Exposure time: 1/2000 F-stop: 14.0 ISO speed: 1600 Focal length: 300mm. Note the fast exposure time of 1/2000 sec so camera motion even on the bobbing boat was not a problem. I was lucky to have a bright, sunny day.

Here he is joined by another. They stay and feed in family groups or pods. 2013:08:29 15:55:14 Exposure time: 1/2500 F-stop: 14.0 ISO speed: 1600 Focal length: 300mm

Lots of white showing as well as eye and blow hole and as a bonus the spray pouring off his fin. 2013:08:29 15:55:20 Exposure time: 1/2500 F-stop: 14.0 ISO speed: 1600 Focal length: 300mm

He must have slapped the water with his flipper. A small boat and another large one about the size of ours is in view. 2013:08:29 15:56:49 Exposure time: 1/1600 F-stop: 14.0 ISO speed: 1600 Focal length: 70mm Too bad I had zoomed the lens down to minimum focal length, otherwise he's appear closer, but the other boats would not have shown.

Two again with face, blow hole, and white side of one showing. Again low Focal length, but got them both. No telling now how many the small field of view/high magnification of 300 mm FL cut out. Most times two or more, and as many as 5 or more were visible at once in a small area and more spread out further. 2013:08:29 15:57:05 Exposure time: 1/2000 F-stop: 14.0 ISO speed: 1600 Focal length: 125mm

Four in picture here at 125mm. Like I say, no telling how many I could have gotten with a wide angle shot of 94 degrees, but I was not about to change lenses. I need another camera body for a second lens. 2013:08:29 15:57:07 Exposure time: 1/1600 F-stop: 14.0 ISO speed: 1600 Focal length: 125mm

Clearly 5 orcas. And many more at other places nearby. 2013:08:29 15:57:08 Exposure time: 1/1600 F-stop: 14.0 ISO speed: 1600 Focal length: 125mm

At 70 mm (wide field, small image) there are three orcas, the two nearest have just blown and their spray is still in the air just behind them. The "one" on the right may be two whales; it is hard to tell. 2013:08:29 15:57:43 Exposure time: 1/2000 F-stop: 14.0 ISO speed: 1600 Focal length: 70mm

I caught this one with its face up above the water, white belly showing, and his spray still in the air. This is my next to last killer whale photo (last I'm presenting here) of 92 I took. 2013:08:29 15:52:45 Exposure time: 1/1000 F-stop: 13.0 ISO speed: 1600 Focal length: 300mm

The boat turned and went about 3 miles south to where they knew the humpback whales were. It was great to see the spray of one blowing as we approached the area. Other boats were already there and may have radioed them, but more probably they knew the area well from their twice a day excursions. 2013:08:29 16:32:18 Exposure time: 1/3200 F-stop: 7.1 ISO speed: 800 Focal length: 300mm
