DSC_0021

Aurora Borelis from Whitehorse, Yukon 8/16/13 about 2AM Nikon camera, 11MM lens at f/4, 20 seconds exposure, ISO 400 05 All exposures were taken withoug a tripod, hand held by holding the camera as still as I could against a rigid object, electrical transformer, concrete picnic table, lamp post. Hence, there is varying degrees of camera motion that caused "star streaking" or apparent movement in the object. The street lights here "moved" way too much. To do it right I should have used a tripod, (I have several back home in Sedona) and a cable release, and the "hat trick" (holding a hat or card in front of the lens without touching it and moving it after firing the shutter, after the mirror in the camera stops vibrating.

Thank you for sharing your pictures as we never got to see the lights. You took some very good pictures and I again thank you.

DSC_0027

Aurora Borelis from Whitehorse, Yukon 8/16/13 about 2AM Nikon camera, 11MM lens at f/4, 20 seconds exposure, ISO 1600 11 Note that the increased detector speed (all previous shots were ISO 400, this is IS0 1600) over exposed the sky and brought out the clouds (the red, probably from a preponderance of red light reflected up from the ground). But I did get a 3rd band, which I did not know was there (or it just appeared)
